MODULE 5: A Mule in the School (Class Final Product)

Timing: 4 sessions

  1. I read Shark in the Park and Shark in the Dark both books by Nick Sharrat. Two weeks ago some students of Year 6 asked me to tell them the books that are colourful, childish, and funny.
  2. I explained them that we could make a Digital Story based on those books.
  3. I showed them a Prezi presentation to know what we were going to need and use...

  4. In a Paddlet we chose and wrote the title and the scenes/slides of the digital story.

    Made with Padlet
  5. We decided the materials/things we needed and who would bring them next day.
  6. In pairs students did the storyboard: they sketched the scene/slide, they wrote the text and decided if they had to record the voice, if they had to insert some music, the settings where they would take the pictures...
  7. The teacher made a video sample to show the students the artifact they were going to make. I told the students that we would use Stupeflix.com to create the video. In this web you can edit videos, you can add pictures, music, text...
  8. Steps 9 and 10 were made in small groups: Some students recorded the voices, some of them wrote the text, some of them took the pictures and edited them, some students chose some pictures from Google Images...
  9. The students brought the things and took pictures for the digital story. They edited the pictures using the photoeditor PicMonkey.
  10. They chose the music, they recorded the audio files and finally they made the video: online-voice-recorder.com
  11. At the end they had to assess their work in Kahoot.

MODULE 4 (Padlet and Voice Recorder)

Here is the link to the poem we are going to write. Each student is going to write a line and insert an image or an audio file.

We watched the Michael Rose Rap and we decided to copy his last part of the poem-rap. We liked the idea and we are going to create a collaborative poem where each student (21) would write one line.
We are also going to use this website to record our voices and we are going to download some pictures from Google Images.

Year 6 rap, rap, rap...

This is the rubric students are going to use for self assessment.

MODULE 3 (Goanimate)

Watch the video. I used Goanimate.

I made a very easy video but I think it's a little difficult for the timing. I wasted a lot of time searching and trying... The video is very simple but the software is difficult to use if you are not used in editing videos...

This is a Prezi presentation to show the comic I created with http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/comic/  I think this web is perfect for very young students. It is very easy to use but when you finish your comic you can only print it. You can not save it or publish it. I took some screenshots and then uploaded them in Prezi.

This is the rubric I with my studen(Year 5, Year 6) in order to asses their digital stories.

MODULE 2 (Canva)

Here is the link to the Infographic about Harry Potter
Maybe this is the story of my reading; connecting the books from the first to the last one. In this kind of poster you can see the covers of the books, the titles and two key words that help you to remind what I read some years ago. Here is the pdf file.

MODULE 2 (Prezi)

Here's the link to Prezi.
It's a story inspired by the book I Want My Hat Back by Jon Kalssen.
Where are my shoes?

I have chosen an easy story with repetitive structures where students can predict what is next. I have used Google images and I have also trimmed an audio file.
I can use this story with my students of P4 and P5 although they can not read, they can follow the story with the pictures and I can read the story.

Contents
Vocabulary about animals: hedgehog, snake, lizard, squirrel, rabbit and caterpillar.
Vocabulary about nature: field, tree, cave, rock, bridge.
Prepositions: in, on, under.
Structures: Where are my shoes? I don't have any shoes.

Hello everybody, hello everyone!

We all love listening to stories.
Let's learn how to create stories. We are going to learn how to use digital tools to tell and share them. The first video is an example for you and the second video is an example for the teacher:

  • Storytelling is the activity of telling a story : action, gestures, images... Learning a foreign language in a natural way, using a new language in order to learn-understand this new language.
  • Our students are digital natives. We have to integrate digital tools in the classroom.
  • I hope to use digital storytelling with my students.
